The Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS) located in Mattawan, just outside of Mattawa offers 300 kms of four season exploration opportunities to ATVers, motocross riders, snowmobilers and horseback riders.  To increase awareness of this local gem and to attract more visitors to the region, The Mattawa-Bonfield Economic Development Corporation is working closely with the VMUTS new board of directors to establish and carry out an operating plan, including marketing tools and a trail maintenance plan.

Thanks to an opportunity brought to us as a result of our new partnership with OFATV, we are featured in GO RVing Canada's August publication.

A storyline submitted by MBEDC with photos supplied to us by Sid Turcotte Park showcases us THE destination for RV Campgrounds/ATV Trail Systems.

Some changes since last season:

-To help riders better navigate the trails, we added some new directional signs earlier this season. Look for more soon! Made possible through rider funding support and funds through partnerships with MBEDC (Mattawa Bonfield Economic Development Corporation) and Destination Northern Ontario. PLEASE don't do like some and remove the signs!

-Thanks to rider support funds and a grant from the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development during an 8 week period, 4 people cleared brush on approx. 160 kms of the trail system. Grant funds helped to pay for labour costs, brushsaws, chainsaws and gas, ATV rental costs to take workers to and from the trails each day; additional insurance costs; worker safety training.

-Thanks to an OFATV grant and rider support funds, after the August long weekend, much needed repairs were made to Trail #11's surface were completed.

-GPS'ing of the entire trail system for the purpose of creating a new physical and online map for VMUTSsupporters is underway!

Your support goes a long way to help us make your ride on the trail system much more enjoyable!
Thanks to visiting riders from throughout Ontario, Canada and the USA the VMUTS is a key economic driver for our region. Fixed roof accommodation businesses, campgrounds, gas stations and restaurants all directly benefit from visiting rider stays and purchases. The Voyageur Multi - Use Trail System brings more visitors, more stays, more purchases, more money into our region!

Stay tuned..we have more in the works!

We would be remiss in not mentioning our private landowner partners. Without the formal right of passage land use agreements between them and VMUTS, riders could not get to or through many of their preferred trails in this Crown Land Nipissing Forest . Our friends and partners include MNRF and Nipissing Forest Resource Management. Your financial support of the VMUTS helps to ensure those private property access points for our rider supporters are included in our insurance policy.

Visit our NEW website www.vmuts.ca for everything you need to know about our not for profit volunteer run organization. We appreciate everyone who financially supports our efforts and trail maintenance activities. Without you we could not do the things we do for ALL riders or our local businesses!

The MBEDC Secures VMUTS Directional Signage Funding

At their July board meetings, our Director of Economic Development Donna Maitland reported to the MBEDC and Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS) that Tourism Northern Ontario is partnering with MBEDC and VMUTS to acquire $5000 worth of directional signs. Improved and more trail signage will help to guide returning and the many new trail riders  and non-motorized trail users who are discovering VMUTS’ near 300 kms of trails for the first time this year.

A partnership formed with OFATV earlier this year has increased visitors to the area, resulting in more stays at all local accommodators and campgrounds, more fuel sales and more restaurant visits.

Stay tuned for news about the results of partnership activities underway with other  types of provincial based rider association groups!

On February 8, 2018, the Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System (VMUTS) Board of Directors voted unanimously to join and become a member of the Ontario Federation of All-Terrain Vehicles, This is exciting news for ATVers across the province and for businesses within the Mattawa-Bonfield region.

In keeping with its mandate to coordinate, promote and maintain a regional multi-use trail system, the VMUTS Board of Directors is working on a number of other user group partnerships and affililiations. Stay tuned!

For now, through the partnership with OFATV, ATVers buy their passes via OFATV and have access to a number of trails across the province.
Local ATVers who have in the past supported trail maintenance and admin costs through the purchase a trail pass - we will be in touch soon.

All other trail users will continue to enjoy the Voyageur Multi Use Trail System just as they always have, no change; via a VMUTS trail pass. The pass purchase system is in the works!

An updated, modern website is in the works and will soon be launched.

In the article below, Dave Baker, President of the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs, enthusiastically shares the news of the OFATV/VMUTS partnership, and what it means for riders from across the province AND for the region's tourism sector.
